I will be making brownies at our church’s community building tomorrow. The men’s fellowship group is having their annual rabbit dinner on Saturday and I made the mistake of making brownies a few years ago for their dessert. Now, they ask for them every year! You know those brownies I talked about a few Fridays ago? Well, those are the ones. The reason for telling you what I will be doing tomorrow is because I want to participate in Val’s meme, Four Foods on Friday #14. It is only Thursday but I will be gone tomorrow so here ya go.

Here are this week’s four questions.

#1. Bacon. Chewy, crispy or burnt?
#2. Mayonnaise or miracle whip?
#3. What green vegetable is used in Italian Wedding soup?
#4. Share a recipe that you use Italian sausage in.

I like my bacon chewy but it has to be done. I cannot stand bacon that is not cooked enough. It is hard to get to that point without making it crisp.

I use miracle whip. It has a sweeter taste. My mom always used miracle whip and I think that is why I am used to it. I like it better when I make potato salad.

I have no idea what green vegetable is used in Italian Wedding Soup. How about celery. ?

I make a recipe that my sister Grace gave me a few years ago. It uses Italian sausage and hot sauce for a great winter warming meal.

Savory Bean Stew

  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 3 medium carrots, diced
  • 3 celery ribs, diced
  • 1 large onion
  • 1/2 cup pearl barley
  • 1/2 cup dried lentils
  • 1 tsp hot pepper sauce
  • 3 cans of beans, one of each kidney, pinto, black eyed peas drained and rinsed
  • 1 pound Italian sausage cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
  • In a large pot, place all ingredients except spinach. Cover and cook over medium heat for 45-60 minutes or until the barley and lentils are tender. Stir in spinach and heat through.

Makes 6-8 serving. Warning: this is very potent (as in gas producing)
