I found a website that I absolutely love. For a long time, I have avoided going to open houses and show home tours. I have issues when I visit those types of events. I have big house envy. I know I do and I am not proud. I want to be satisfied with what I have, which is pretty nice. The website I found is called The Jewel Box Home. It is all about big house envy.

The main theme of the The Jewel Box Home blog is based about the following quote from Will Rogers, the American humorist and entertainer:

“Too many people spend money they haven’t earned, To buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like.”

Isn’t that the truth? We want bigger, newer things only to discover that they take more money to maintain. They require more time to keep clean and update. They take away from our free time.

The Jewel Box Home is written by a smart woman who introduces us to how a small home can be a status symbol. I love it! I am reading this blog from front to back to see how to keep the mindset of how small is better. I feel that way when I am cleaning my closets of stuff that I wonder why the heck I even bought to begin with. I love how she reminds us that a big house doesn’t make us a better spouse, parent or human being.

I often wait on customers who are spending the extra money to be able to say they have granite counter tops but in the same breath complain that they can’t travel to visit their grandchildren. What is up with that?

This blog is full of tips on entertaining and decorating all while enjoying what we have. I love this blog!
