Whitehouse Christmas Trees
Did you know that the tradition of a placing a decorated tree in the White House began in 1889 on Christmas morning during the Presidency of Benjamin Harrison? Benjamin Harrison was from Indiana. Last February, my sister Grace and I stayed at a B & B not too far from his home in Indianapolis. It is open to visitors.
This year a convoy of antique trucks left Danbury, CT headed for Washington D.C.. Fifteen antique trucks participated in a convoy from Vermont to Washington D.C. to deliver the Christmas Tree for the Capitol building. They delivered trees to many VA hospitals along the way. This website gives the history with pictures of Christmas trees at the Whitehouse.
This year’s beautiful tree came from Laurel Springs, N.C.
