Memory Screening is Important!

November1

Did you know that you can be screened to see if you have the potential of having Alzheimer disease? I did not know that. We often wonder if we are candidates for the disease because a relative has it. There is a screening procedure available and everyone is encouraged to utilize the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. They have collaborated with many organizations to bring AzNational Memory Screening Day to our attention. It is certainly important to note how important screening can be. We often hear people saying that they feel as if their memory is going and wonder if they are getting the disease. Early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses means preventative measures can be taken. Lives can be bettered by a small screening! To find a screening location in your area for your loved one or yourself go to the website and enter your zip code. It is as simple as that!

Appropriate intervention can be taken if we all get a heads up on this disease.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America website has a wealth of information on caring for those with the disease. It is also an important resource for finding a cure.

Watch For Deer

November1

I have been seeing more deer lately. The farmers have gotten all their corn and soybeans in and the fields are bare. It’s too bad that the deer can’t hibernate like bears do. They could fill their tummies and be set for the long hard winter.

When I was at mom’s, on Sunday, I happened to glance out her front door. I saw in the field across the way that several does had ventured out. It was fun to watch them. They would graze a bit and then raise their heads up to look. I wonder if they could sense I was watching. A buck with a nice rack of horns slowly wandered onto the scene and those does took notice. They started running around and skipping. It was so funny! I think they were twitterpated. LOL

Weight Gain During Holidays

November1

If you are like me, you are thinking ahead about the holidays. I always overeat because there are always events to attend. It doesn’t seem polite to not sample the food when someone goes to the trouble to make desserts. I think if I start now I can lose some weight and then not feel so bad during the holidays.

I have been reading information about the Skip A Day Diet. The website says;

“The Skip-A-Day Diet can turn-off your appetite up to 48 hours. Your body will be using stored fat for nourishment while your appetite is shut off. While you’re sleeping, some of your stored fat will be used to replenish your reserve energy supply. If you eat nothing at all on diet day, your body will draw on your reserve fat and use it that day and night. This means you will be losing weight even while you are asleep.” Get the details at skipaday.com.

That sounds easy enough to me. The website has a test diet that suggests foods to give you a better idea if this diet is one that will work for you. I especially appreciate not having to invest money in unusual foods or pre-packaged meals to purchase. I like that the skipaday.com diet includes eating foods that are good for you. I must have my veggies! You stock up on those on your “eat day.” That curbs your appetite so you can skip meals the next day. Since I have a doctor’s appointment next week, I am going to have him check this over to make sure it is something safe for me to do.

Peaceful Wednesday

November1

We visited our good friend Tina tonight. She is in the hospital and is recovering from surgery. She is doing very well. She has a lot of color in her cheeks and was already walking the halls.

We took Tina’s husband, Jack, to eat dinner at a restaurant nearby. We went to Ted’s Montana Grill. It is known for serving buffalo. None of us ordered buffalo! I almost ordered meatloaf made with buffalo but changed to chicken at the last minute. The chicken was so so. I loved the squash casserole. They served some odd tasting pickles. I think they were soaking in vinegar and garlic.

It was sprinkling a bit when we were driving home. I suppose it will rain tonight and we won’t get the grass mowed tomorrow. We will need a hay mower pretty soon. The grass is getting very long.
