It has been so hot this summer that I wouldn’t have wanted to take our boat to the lake if we still had it! We enjoyed our boat when the kids were in middle school. They learned to ski and rode a big inner tube we hooked to the back of the boat. At that time, boat loans had a low interest rate so we had great entertainment at a low price. We’ve been fortunate to have good credit and have had no problems getting personal loans for our toys. I see many boats at the bank that are for sale. People let their wants get ahead of their means and when they can’t pay their secured loans, the item is repossessed and becomes the property of the lending institution. Thank goodness, that never happened to us. Of course, we never bought the most expensive toys. We didn’t have to have all the bells and whistles like some people. As long as it would start when we put the key in the ignition, we were happy.

I went with mom today to Grissom. The Air Force base is no longer there but they do offer services to retirees. It was odd to drive down the streets where I spent my teenage years. The base has been converted to buildings that hold many types of businesses. I’m not sure what they all are. I know that in one building, they refurbish the wheels from trains. We didn’t go into the housing area. We stayed on the fenced in side where the officers club and hospital used to be. The hospital is now a nursing home and the officers club is a center where receptions for weddings and reunions are held.

It has been very quiet in our store this week. It is this way every year when school starts. New clothes and school supplies are where the money goes this month. I’ve heard that the fees for books have increased. The price of lunch has gone up but it sounds like it is still a bargain. One county school in Indiana is preparing healthy lunches. I would pay extra for that. Our schools serve a lot of starchy food. I think it would help our kids keep the weight off if they could eat healthier food.

Two years ago, our church purchased our town’s old fire station. The city had built a new and modern facility. The old fire station has so much history. It sits across the street from our church which is almost in the center of town. Our church decided to purchase the fire station and turn it into a facility that could be used by our youth and the communtiy. It has been a long process to watch what the fire station has become.
