When Surgery Restores Quality of Life

August2

I’ve been following the story of the little girl who was born without a face. It is amazing to see how they have reconstructed her bones from different areas of her body and used them to make a nose and ears for her. She actually had eyes but they were covered and had to be brought to the surface.

It is amazing what can be done in the area of re-constructive surgery. Surgeons are improving the quality of life for those in need of work on their hands due to fire damage and even vaginal plastic surgery procedures. It is not necessary to settle for less than the best body image.

An area where re-constructive surgery is possibly saving lives is when a woman, usually from a middle eastern country, requires surgery. Women with origins from countries such as Iran and Saudi Arabia live in fear of being falsely accused of having premarital sex. According to some interpretations of Islamic law, if a male relative suspects them of having premarital sex, the woman is a criminal. In some countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, the penalty could be death. When a woman is able to repair the area, she is able to escape the fear of being labeled. Being able to resume her life is considered a miracle.
