Pit In My Stomach

I have a pit in my stomach. A friend of ours, who is retired from the state police and was twice the sheriff of our county, had a tragedy befall his family. His son David, age 41, was also a state policeman until yesterday when he stopped to help a motorist and the man pulled out a shotgun and killed him. The gunman then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

Our town is in shock. You know that when they are in law enforcement that this can happen. You just hope it never does.
