Barbra Streisand Performs In Germany
Being of Jewish heritage, Barbra Streisand has stood strong in her belief that she shouldn’t perform in Germany. In an effort to make a statement about how the Jewish people were treated during the Holocaust, she felt it wouldn’t be right. After many fans contacted her to let her know she was loved in Germany and that very few survivors of the holocaust were alive, she decided it was time to put the past behind her. She performed to a sell-out crowd in Berlin. “I still can’t believe it took me so long to come here,” an elated Streisand told the crowd after her 2-1/2 hour concert. “Thank you for coming. Thank you for waiting. Thank you for being amazing. You’ve been a fantastic. I’ll never forget you.” Germany, where only a small fraction of the population was born before the Nazis took power in 1933, has spent decades trying to come to terms with the shame of its Nazi past. Barbra Streisand decided it was time to overcome her anti-German resentment.
