I can hardly believe how fast this year has gone. It seems like we were just planting a garden and now it is time to bake Christmas cookies.
I have been working so much on the mystery quilt that I have let many of my housecleaning and laundry chores get backed up. I think I have my Christmas shopping finished except to order a cool jimi hendrix shirt I just discovered that one of my nephews would really like to have for his special gift. I love it when the kids let you know what they really want. It makes opening gifts so much more fun!
I need to start wrapping gifts so that I know if I need to buy paper and bows. I think I have enough but would hate to run short. Both the kids will be home this year so I need to get organized and not be wrapping gifts at midnight on Christmas Eve. Do any of you do that? I am such a procrastinator.
We finally found a health insurance provider. What an ordeal! We have had to change providers every year for the past 4 years. It is such a pain getting medications all set up. Thankfully, we can stay with our same doctor.
I am off to bed now so I can get started with cleaning in the morning. Nite.
My husband and I just received a letter from our insurance company letting us know that our health insurance premium for April will be $876.00. I am so disgusted. We have a policy with a $5000.00 deductible. This is crazy and if it didn’t hit us right in the wallet, would be laughable. There is not a darn thing we can do about it. We are at the age where we have a few health issues with cholesterol and blood pressure so no other insurer will cover us. They have us where they want us.
Unlike carinsurancelist.com where one can go to find out about numerous companies with which to insure an auto, we are stuck with Anthem. Yes Anthem, the business with the fancy high rise, glass fronted buildings that have ponds and beautiful landscaping.
Here is an excerpt from President Obama’s recent speech given at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania.
And the insurance companies continue to ration health care based on who’s sick and who’s healthy; on who can pay and who can’t pay. That’s the status quo in America, and it is a status quo that is unsustainable for this country. We can’t have a system that works better for the insurance companies than it does for the American people. We need to give families and businesses more control over their own health insurance. And that’s why we need to pass health care reform — not next year, not five years from now, not 10 years from now, but now.
I never thought I would be for national health care but it is getting to the point of choosing to buy food or making enough money to pay our insurance premiums. I don’t know where else we can cut our budget.
It is a sad day when someone has to ask for money to help them get the medical care they need. I don’t know what the answer is to enable each of us to have affordable insurance. All I know is that Holly needs our help. She has been diagnosed with breast cancer and does not have health insurance. I hope you are not shocked by her lack of insurance coverage. There are many who simply cannot afford to be insured. Our health insurance as a self employed person is out of this world. Fortunately, we have been able to pay the premium each month. We have a $5000.00 deductible on our policy!
Back to Holly’s predicament. You can read about Holly and if you choose, help her get the treatments she need. At best, you may choose to donate to fund cancer research by going to the website at National Breast Cancer.org.
I wish Holly the best of luck. I did not take the op on the paid site as I did not want her to spend more money to get money. This is not a paid post.
