Walking on the outside: The custom of a man walking between his female companion and the street was the custom in the days when carriages splashed mud and ladies’ finery needed shielding. These days, it doesn’t matter who is walking on the street side of the sidewalk.

Shaking hands: Used to be that a man was supposed to wait for a woman to offer her hand before he extended his. Today, regardless of gender, people should shake hands upon meeting, and it doesn’t matter who puts their hand out first.

Times have certainly changed! I can remember the days when a woman went to college for one reason. It was not to get her degree but to catch her man! With all the women who are making their own way without the help of a man, customs and manners have changed. The idea of flirting used to mean you were hard up or desperate to find a date. I have been accused of giving “the look.” My look is a look that I have perfected over the years. I have worked hard to achieve “the look.” It is a look that moms strive for and one that says, “I mean business” or “you had better get with it.” I have another look. My husband knows that look and knows it can be a fleeting look so he had better act fast! LOL

I have watched movies and television programs and see how looks are given that say come hither. Some looks are given with a toss of the hair or with a certain tilt of the head. I don’t use those looks. My eyes say it all. Some people use body language with their “look.” I guess that works for them. I see some very sexy outfits worn by people who are trying to give “the look.” I don’t know if that works but they get looks back I am sure.
