This is a video that was sent to me from Bryan. It goes out to my sister. I love you, Stacy! Stay safe and warm in Florida!

Angry

I am so angry that I’m shaking right now. I got up early this morning so that I could get a good parking spot because it snowed again and I didn’t feel like walking very far in the cold. I got to the parking lot at 10:30 and I had my class at 11:00, so that gave me half an hour to wait for someone to leave their spot in the lot.

Now, here’s what you should know. There is only one parking lot for graduate assistants that is close to my building. It is always filled, but you generally have a couple of people leave every half hour. If I don’t get a spot in this lot, I have a twenty minute hike to my building, which I generally don’t mind, but not when the temperature is in the single digits or below.

So I was waiting for about twenty five minutes, my class was starting in five minutes, and finally someone was going to leave. I pulled behind their car and waited for them to back out so that I could pull in. Then a silver SUV pulls up. As the car left, I pulled into the spot, and the silver SUV beeped at me. I’m thinking “Okay, I waited 25 minutes for this spot, and now you’re upset because you just pulled up and think you deserve it. Whatever.” That isn’t what I am upset about.

The woman rolled down her window and waited for me to get out of my car and then yelled at me for not being a gentleman. She is a woman, so I should give her the parking spot.

I definitely have my shortcomings, but you can not say that I’m not a gentleman. That is one of the characteristics that I am always consciously making sure I embody. I always hold doors open, am honest and caring, and I live by my word. However, there is a big difference between being a gentleman and being a pushover.

I could have snapped back at her, and I could have said what I really thought of her, but I didn’t. In the words of former First Lady Barbara Bush, she is something that “rhymes with rich.” She said I wasn’t a gentleman, I said “whatever” and I just kept walking to my building. We’ll see what my car looks like when I go back out around 3:00.

Ultimate Paintball

I remember back in July, I went to a bachelor party that was very unique. It was a paintball tournament, which is a very interesting group activity, and not very typical of a bachelor party. The guns at the place were Spyder Pilot ACS Mega guns, and they were selling them for about $300. I found them online for $179.95 at pntball.com, which is a discount paintball retailer. They sell everything, from playing apparell (like gloves, jersey’s, slider shorts and neck protectors) to paintball tubes. They also have paintball sights available at discount prices. If you are into paintball, you should check out this site.

Home Again

I’m home again. I went to Indianapolis to help Butler’s speech team with the tournament they were hosting, and my mom called and told me that I had a package at the house. Long story short, I went home after eating dinner with the team. I’ve really had a great weekend. I saw people that I didn’t get to see over break, so that was nice. I love three-day weekends! Any of you do anything special, or did you just spend some time at home?

Allbatts

My fiancée, Taryn, has been very unhappy with her cell phone battery lately. It seems like it only lasts a few hours and then she has to charge it again. It is very annoying. What is the point of having a cell phone if you have to plug it in and stand beside the outlet for the rest of your conversation? I found this great new website called allbatts.com, and they have every kind of battery you can think of, from digital camera batteries to cell phone batteries. I looked up her phone, and they have a high capacity battery for only 20 dollars! I definitely need to tell her about this place.

Why Care About Michigan?
Posted on January 15th, 2008 at 2:38 pm by GregM

Michigan is extremely interesting when it comes to the Republican primary. This is because anyone can vote, including independents and Democrats, giving is a clearer picture of which Republican would fare the best in a general election. It will be interesting to see who wins out: McCain or Romney? No other Republican candidates are realistically in the picture. McCain, who won Michigan over George W. Bush in 2000, has been endorsed by both the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News. However, Romney’s lineage includes a Michigan governor, which is something he is leaning on.

What about the Democrats? Neither Edwards nor Obama are even on the ballot in the Democratic primary. The state has been stripped of most of its Democratic delegates as punishment for moving its primary so early, as many states did for this election. As a result, Edwards and Obama are focusing their efforts in states with more political power.

Toasting Flutes?

Having recently moved to Ohio, it is very difficult to plan my wedding that is in another state. It would be much easier if I were doing a Columbus Wedding, but regardless of where it is, wedding planning is hard work. There are so many things to consider that I didn’t even know about. For example, Taryn and I just got our toasting flutes. I did not even realize we needed to get toasting flutes. I knew about catering and flowers and the church and the outfits, but somehow I missed the toasting flutes. I do not know what I was thinking, LOL! What else am I forgetting to think of? There are so many things to consider, and it is so easy to overlook something. Taryn and I have had a blast planning our wedding, and I really think it is going to be fun for everyone who is lucky enough to be invited, but you certainly never run out of things to do. Luckily, there is a website that helps. It is called 1Weddingsource. If you are planning a wedding, you should really check it out. It has all sorts of information about anything you can think of, as well as things you might not think of (like toasting flutes).

Michigan!

Today is the Michigan Primary. I’m very curious to see how Mitt Romney does. His father was the governor of Michigan, so if he doesn’t do well here, it will definitely hurt him. Stay tuned for updates when they become available.

Lap Band Surgery

If you are like me, you have struggled with your weight. I have completely adjusted the way I eat, and I have lost some weight, but it doesn’t seem to make much of an impact. If you are looking for dramatic weight loss, check out lap band surgery. It is completely reversible and adjustable so you can keep things they way you want them - for life.

What’s Next?

Taryn and I have been discussing what we’re going to do when we graduate, aside from getting married. She has decided that she definitely wants to teach. Now I just have to figure out what I’m doing so she knows where to apply. I have three options on my mind.

The first is to go on to law school, which I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. The only issue that I’m having is that I worry I won’t be able to get in. I had a decent GPA in undergrad (3.25), but it’s not stellar. I need to have a great LSAT score to get into a good school, so I’m going to spend this semester studying for the June LSAT.

Option number two is to go on with my studies and get my doctorate. This would allow me to get a tenure-track position at a university and continue teaching and researching.

My third option is to get a regular job. I could get a job with the state or federal government, or in the private industry. I would most likely be working in the public/media relations department of wherever I go. This would work out because I already have experience and great recommendations.

I just don’t know what to do. It’s something I’ll be praying about.
