With the price of gas this summer, many are opting to vacation closer to home. When our kids were in young, about 8 and 12 years old, we opted to skip vacations and buy a boat. We had loads of fun boating on the reservoir near our home. We had a big inner tube that the kids would ride on as their dad would drive the boat and try to dump them. When we stopped for a snack we would find a quiet cove. The coves were where I saw partying on boats.
Many boaters feel that boating is the time to drink alcohol and put their troubles behind them by drowning them with drink. There is a problem with boating operating under the influence. Operating a boat while impaired is just as dangerous and just as illegal as drinking while driving a car. Many drownings occur as the result of mixing alcohol with boating. I encourage all boating participants to take classes for boating education online or in person. It could save your life. The videos in my post are very informative and “sobering.” Please, enjoy boating and stay safe while doing so. Boating Education is the key to combat alcohol related boating fatalities & accidents.
This has nothing to do with travel, which is what I write about on this blog, but it is important. Did you know that 35 million Americans are hungry or living on the brink of hunger? That is crazy! We have so many resources and yet our fellow citizens are going hungry? We have to put and end to that situation or at least make a huge dent in the problem.
For the 14th year, the Campbell Soup Company and the United States Postal Service are teaming together with the National Association of Letter Carriers to co-sponsor Stamp Out Hunger.
Stamp Out Hunger™ is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. Last year, over 70 million pounds of food were donated to food banks. Join in the fight to end hunger on Saturday, May 10, 2008, by leaving non-perishable food donations in a bag next to your mailbox for your letter carrier. It is that simple. The next time you do your grocery shopping, pick up an extra can of green beans and another can of corn and donate it. You don’t even have to deliver it.
After reading about a an elderly person who became disoriented after a drive to the grocery, I am convinced that there are more uses for GPS tracking devices than I had originally considered. This woman had almost driven to another state. Luckily, her family had installed a GPS tracking device in her car. She had shown signs of dementia and they thought they would rather be safe than sorry and so installed the device. Keeping our senior citizens safe is a problem that many families face every day. Tracking devices installed in cars can keep track of where our loved ones are and give us the opportunity to help them.
I had just been discussing the value of GPS tracking devices when you have teen drivers in your family. We hope that our teens make good decisions but there are times when they lose their minds. My friend is sad that her daughter is gravitating towards a group of kids that are not the best. She is limiting the time her daughter spends with those kids and a GPS tracking device is helping her do that.
There are so many ways, besides when we travel, that GPS tracking devices keep us safe and keep us from worrying.
I talk a lot about traveling. There are many places I have been and want to share my thoughts about them. There are places I would love to see. There is another type of journey. That is the one my friend is on. She had weight losss woodlands surgery and it has changed her life. This surgery changes your whole life. That said, it is important to learn all there is to know about the psychological effects as well as the health effects of this surgery. JourneyLite surgical center is designed with their clients well being in mind. Physical and emotional aspects are studied. No one is allowed to go into this life changing surgery without weighing all the aspects it entails. It is a reversible surgery but even that has risks. They want you to succeed when you decide to have lap-band surgery. I wish my friend the best of luck on her journey and offer all the support I am able to give.
What is a person supposed to do when they love a brand of food and cannot find it. I am referring to my favorite milk shake from Steak and Shake. I love to order their cookies and cream shake and get it to reward myself. It can be a reward for getting out of bed. I am not picky. I love those shakes.
When Stacy lived in Baltimore, she could not find a Steak and Shake. That is why she had to move to Florida. Not really. The government moved her but had it not, it would have been a good reason to relocate. To live where there is no Steak and Shake would be unthinkable.
A pirate walks into a barber shop and says oy chair.
The barber looks at him strangely and points to the oyster bar across the street.
No, the pirate says. Oy chair.
Confused, the barber offers to walk him across the street to eat some oysters with him.
The pirate’s matey walks in and asks the pirate what is up with yoy chair.
The pirate says, I’m trying to get it cut but the barber just wants to go for lunch.
Sorry. It’s lame but all that pirate talk does make me hungry for some seafood.
I have been curious as to the rules when it comes to eating raw fish. Since trying to eat Sushi last week and Lynn talking about eating gulf oysters, I have decided to become more informed about seafood. There is a helpful website called Be Oyster Aware. You can find out how to stay safe when choosing and eating seafood. The site also has some yummy recipes to try. A Hoy!
When I travel, I dream of owning property in the places I visit. If I was serious about purchasing or listing a property, I would utilize www.medhead.com. The site is in 7 different languages and lists 7000 properties. The properties are for sale or rent through estate agents and private individuals in the beautiful countries of Spain, France, Italy and Cyprus. All 7000 properties are translated in 7 languages which include English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian and Danish. Whenever you check out any of the pages for each country, you will be able to have each page translated in the language of your liking.
I have longed to travel to Spain and see the beautiful vineyards and terrain of that diverse country. With this Mediterranean property portal I can search out points of interest. It is very easy to use the site and it even has map search capabilities. I had to make myself stop looking because it was so easy to jump from one page to the next and get carried away with my dreaming. I found this lovely place in Nerja, Malaga, Spain. I have to start saving my money.
Something I have noticed while visiting Florida, is that everyone drives new cars. Perhaps, because of the nice weather here, they all just look new. Our cars, in Indiana, take a beating with all the ice and snow we deal with every winter.
If I could, I would keep my car forever. I hate buying new cars. It usually involves a migraine. Do you like to work out car buying deals? Not me, as I have had a few crazy experiences with condenscending salesmen over the years. Have you had a bad car buying experience? I would love to hear about it.
The whole experience of buying a car can be a pleasant experience when you use a Car Buying Concierge. The service sounds like my cup of tea. It helps people like me, get throught the negotiating process and buying process without the usual migraine.
CARCHEX is the wonderful genius behind the Concierge idea. They know how much easier having a Concierge who acts as a car buying agent for me is going to make buying a new or used car so much easier. By using them, I am sure to get the best deal on not only the price but on my trade-in value and financial figures too. That is the part where I always get confused. I think this is going to be great.
I must have vacation karma! I have often wished for a simple site that I could use to plan a vacation. I get so tired of searching all over the web to find information and now I don’t have to do that. Now, when I look for vacation rentals through www.vrwd.com, I will be shown thousands of vacation rental websites from all over the world. I hope that all my favorite places get their listing in because I only want to use one search engine. Vacation Rentals Web Directory is going into my favorites.
