Continuation of our trip to Europe in 1976
After going back to the airport to retrieve our passports we checked in at the Hotel Bristol. It was a beautiful hotel with lots of stairs. In 1976 our luggage didn’t have the handy rollers that today’s bags all have.
We headed out to shop until our room was ready. We also hunted for the bottled water everyone warned us to drink. When I asked the girl at the reception desk where to find bottled water she was so surprised and asked, “Why aren’t you drinking our [tag]water[/tag]? What’s wrong with me? I’m healthy!” So, from then on we drank the water everywhere. We also drank [tag]Pepsi[/tag] and coffee but it was expensive. Most everywhere we stayed, breakfast was included. It was usually hard rolls and coffee or hot chocolate.

You should see the procedure we have to go through to drink the tap water in this country… Filter the water (wait a while), boil the water (wait for it to cool down), then finally you can drink it.
I thought it was bit OTT when we first moved out here (Kazakhstan)… then I noticed the water kept turning orange randomly! We often end up just buying big 6 litre containers of bottled water, it saves a lot of time
