Wooden Shoes

Karen | travel | Sunday, 29 April 2007

[photopress:Image1.jpg,full,pp_image] I am jumping ahead in our trip to [tag]Europe[/tag]. I had to get this picture up! I had forgotten that Hubby and I dressed up while visiting one of our destinations. Do you like our [tag]wooden shoes[/tag]? Where do you think we were in this picture?

Do You like My Blog, so far?

Karen | blogging | Sunday, 29 April 2007

We have all been trying to save [tag]blogs [/tag] that we enjoy reading. At [tag]Technorati [/tag]you can have them all in one place. That makes it so much easier to see who has updated. The trouble for me has been taking the time to add those who have favorited me to my favorites. This has been made so much simpler.

Over at engtech blog is a program that you can put on your desktop. Run it whenever you want to, preferably a couple times a week, and those who have favorited you are added! Woo Hoo!

Commenting and making friends with other bloggers increases our page ranks and enables us to [tag]make money on the internet [/tag]. For me, when my page rank goes up, I will have more opportunities to write ads for [tag]PayPerPost [/tag].

A Trip to Remember

Karen | travel | Friday, 27 April 2007

In 1976 my husband and I went to Switzerland. It was the first time I had ever been on an airplane. Oh, I forgot that we had a friend fly us from our little town to the airport in Chicago. That was the bumpiest flight! It’s a good thing I didn’t get sick or I might have backed out of getting on that long flight to Switzerland.

Shipshewana

Shipshewana and LaGrange County are home to the “plain people”:Mennonite and Amish. Their influence contributes to Shipshewana’s unique small town atmosphere, which is also characterized by quaint downtown buildings, quality schools, a gracious park, a library of distinction, and a respect for people of faith, all of which are highly valued by its many long time residents.

The community also is generally well-kept; street trees and flowers are a part of the attractive appearance. Holiday decorations reflect the Christian values during the Christmas season, and are a source of pride for many Shipshewana residents. Most businesses are closed in the evenings and on Sundays, reflecting the Mennonite-Amish tradition of strong family values and close ties within the community.

Shipshewana is perhaps most famous for its Miscellaneous and Antique Auction, held every Wednesday throughout the year. It also features flea markets (Tuesday and Wednesday in season) as well as the Friday horse auction.

I’m off to Shipshewana today! I hope to hit all the stores that I missed a few weeks ago. I will be going to Lolly’s Fabric store again though! I’ve been telling mom about the row boat that they have in the store. It is full of rolled up fabric. I can’t wait to start digging through it!

Hawaii Loses Don Ho

Karen | attractions | Sunday, 15 April 2007

[tag]Hawaii[/tag] has lost it’s [tag]grand marshal[/tag]. [tag]Don Ho[/tag], known for his soft, romantic singing of the song, “[tag]Tiny Bubbles[/tag]”, has died at the age of 76. Read the entire story and his [tag]obituary[/tag] at CNN.com. He entertained [tag]tourists[/tag] for decades wearing raspberry-tinted sunglasses and singing the catchy signature tune “Tiny Bubbles.” Ho entertained Hollywood’s biggest stars and thousands of tourists for four decades. For many, no trip to Hawaii was complete without seeing his [tag]Waikiki show[/tag] — a mix of songs, jokes, double entendres, Hawaii history and audience participation.

Spring

Karen | news | Friday, 13 April 2007

I have been complaining a lot because of this crazy cold [tag]weather[/tag]. Yesterday the [tag]wind[/tag] was so blustery that I had on my heavy winter coat and a pair of gloves.

Ooops. I wasn’t going to complain. I was just going to say that the [tag]sun[/tag] is shining. I just saw a bird on my porch and the [tag]yard[/tag] looks so green.

Warmth will come.
