Online Education Available

Published by under a bit of everything

These days, there is no excuse for not pursuing a college degree, not when you can obtain an online degree. So many people I know have gone on to obtain their masters degree online. Western Governors Online University is the university of choice for many. What makes WGU stand out for so many? WGU is a nonprofit, entirely online university in a field crowded with for-profit schools.

Founded in 1997 by 19 U.S. governors whose goal it was to help expand access to quality higher education, especially for working adults. Classes are built around the concept of a competency-based model which enables students to excel at their own speed and fees are set up on that bases and not per credit hour. There are many advantages to attending WGU. Check them out and get started investing in your future.

Christmas Feeling

Published by under entertainment

Are you feeling the Christmas spirit yet? After listening to Straight No Chaser for the past half hour, I think I am definitely feeling the mood. If you need a lift, you can find them in their tuxedos singing Christmas songs on their new DVD. It is on my list of gifts to myself this year.

My eyes are tired after a full day of sewing. A friend said she would be out next week to look at my purses. She wants her husband to buy one for her for Christmas. That gave me the incentive to get a few incomplete purses finished. I finished two and almost completed the third before exhaustion set in. I am too tired to sew another stitch. Here is the Christmas purse I made.

Handmade is the Best

Published by under friends

I recently attended a craft show here in our little town. It seems as if there are many local crafty people. I was excited to find two of my daughter’s friends with a booth of their own. They had tables full of handmade Christmas cards. Of course, I had to buy a few. The problem was deciding which ones were my favorites. I had to limit myself. They make all sorts of cards including birth announcements, birthday and sympathy cards so I am going to be checking with them often. I love giving something that took time to make. It makes giving a card more personal.

This afternoon, I am going to a friend’s house where she is showing a couple of us gals how to make a wallet. I have made a wallet from a pattern before, photo above, but I had trouble getting it to look nice. I am anxious to get tips from her and see how hers turn out so pretty. Have a great day everyone.

Caramel Corn at Christmas

Published by under entertainment

Tonight is the night when I will feel as if the Christmas season has begun. Our church is having our annual tasting party and rejoicing service. This service is a fun, light evening of singing from many groups. We have our local swing choir perform their Christmas selections and the local Barbershop quartet wows us too. Our minister gets goofy and we have loads of fun during the evening. After the singing portion of the event, we are all invited to share our yummy goodies we have each brought to the table. This is not the time to concern ourselves with weight loss diet pills. I am bringing caramel corn again this year.

Snowmen Purses

Published by under entertainment

I do believe I saw snow in our neck of the woods. Snow makes me long for Outer Banks vacations! The only snow flakes I care to see are the ones that formed these cute snowmen. I finished this bag for a friend. She plans to give it to her sister who loves snowmen.

I enjoyed this song sung by Vance Perry so much that I had to share. My joy was multiplied when I realized he was singing with his boys. I hope you enjoy!

Four Foods on Friday 97

Published by under Four Foods on Friday

From Val's Kitchen
Being away from home last week meant missing Four Foods on Friday. Well, we can’t have that. Here are my answers to last Friday’s questions.

1. What do you do with turkey leftovers?
I love turkey sandwiches made with whole wheat bread, Miracle Whip and a little bit of yellow mustard. Yummy!

2. How do you make split pea soup? I have never made split pea soup. I don’t like the thickness of the broth.

3. What do you like on top of your pie?I like ice cream on fruit pie and whip cream on pumpkin pie.
4. What kind of turkey do you usually buy?I usually buy the cheapest turkey I can find. I am not really swayed by all the talk of vitamin supplements, human growth hormone, and how we should buy free range food. My grandma lived to be 96 and she ate turkey.

Feel free to join us at Val’s for Four Foods on Friday!
