Common Optimism

Published by at 9:10 pm under economy

I had an interesting afternoon. I had a nice surprise when a salesman, who called on us years ago, stopped by for a visit. Roy is from Lafayette, Louisiana and always has a story or two to tell. Roy has kids that are the same age as our kids, 24 and 29. Our families seem to have a lot in common. Besides being a floor covering salesman for a major distributor, Roy and his family opened a Cajun restaurant near Indianapolis. My husband and I had dinner there a few months ago and were filled to the gills with Cajun food. Mud Bugs is a wonderful place to eat if you are ever in the Indianapolis area.

Roy has seen a down turn in sales in his territory just as we have. While tech jobs seem to be plentiful, sales of floor covering are slow. We have been fortunate to have steady work but it is a lot more fun when we have more sales than we can deal with! I think things will pick up soon. Everyone seems to be hesitant to spend money when they are not sure they will have a job. I can understand their feelings. The key to our economic situation is optimism. I am optimistic that things will get back to normal. Have you noticed a difference in your field of work? Are you making any changes in your spending habits?

I couldn’t agree with you anymore. Optimism is the key towards getting out of this debacle sooner than later. I’m not telling people to go out and spend all their money being over-optimistic but they should share a common sense mindset of optimism. If we all sit around thinking it’ll never get better, well it just might never get better. Spend wisely but keep a positive attitude on your outlook of the current economic situation.

i totally agree with you if we keep on thinking things wont ever get better, then might be they wont ever. Optimisim hels us keep on going. There has been an enormous shift in spending habbits of people all over the world due to major shift in economies. People try to save more and spend less. But it doenst eans that by spending less, you’re actally saving up. A little optimisim can help everyone break te shell of worries and be a bit ore positive about eveything.

I have definitely noticed a change in my line of work. Tech suprisingly enough. The company I used to work for went through 3 rounds of layoffs this winter and spring. I feel bad for a lot of the people that I used to work with. I wasnt hit because I left before things got really bad. I have been changing spending habbits in the sense that I have a much larger nest egg in case something were to happen. I don’t want to loose my house so I’ve been much more cautious.
