La Cucaracha
We felt like we were betraying someone but it was so worth it. What did we do? Hubby and I went to a different Mexican restaurant than our usual Friday night haunt. Tres Amigos had grown old. Their green peppers and onions had been cooked so much that the flavor was all but gone. I didn’t realize how drab their food had become.
I was invited by friends to try a Mexican restaurant in a nearby town. This was a girl’s night out without our husbands. It took me a while to find something on the menu. It was intimidating to look over the huge menu. I went with the waiter’s recommendation and enjoyed a great meal. The shrimp was huge and not overcooked. The beans and rice served on the side was fresh and yummy. I couldn’t wait to have hubby check out this restaurant on our Friday night date.
A few weeks later when hubby and I visited the new restaurant, a Mariachi band serenaded us! We picked a great night for Mexican food! The fun and lively musical group consisted of a trumpet, a Mexican guitar that was huge, and an accordion. They were dressed in silver studded charro outfits. They were having fun and really interracted with the diners. It was fun to hear them sing. I loved watching the young children as they watched the musicians. They were in awe of their abilities. To tell you the truth, so was I. It was a fun evening.
La cucaracha, La cucaracha
Ya no puede caminar
Porque no tiene, porque le falta
Una pata para andarEnglish:
The cockroach, The cockroach
Can’t walk anymore
Because it doesn’t have, because it’s lacking
A leg to walk

I never knew the English to the song. LOL. Wow, who knew the lowly cockroach would be so extoled in song?

Ellen, I use livesignature.com. I downloaded a plugin that puts it on every post automatically. I will get the pics up next week. My future daughter in law hasn’t seen them yet. I want to hear what she thinks of them before I put them online.
thanks! I see you went over the $22 thousand mark at PPP! Yay!
LOL! I’ve done this before. There’s a Thai restaurant in our neck of the woods that El Hub and I frequent, and whenever we eat Thai anyplace else I feel a tinge of guilt, like we’re betraying a friend by eating somewhere other than our standby Thai place. Yup, gotta love guilt!
OMG! That song is really disgusting! LOL
I’m glad you ventured out and found something new and worthwhile!

I always enjoy trying new restaurants, and I’m glad to hear that you tried and enjoyed a new one.
I remember the cockroach song from when I was young, but I never knew anything except the first line and would wander around the house belting out:
La cucaracha, La cucaracha…
La cucaracha, La cucaracha…
La cucaracha, La cucaracha…
endlessly, until I imagine it drove my parents wild.
I’m glad I found your blog. Be well.

Yummy! Sounds fabulous! And how very cool that you and your hubby have a weekly date night.
it’s nice to know that you had a great time in the new mexican restaurant you discovered. Oh we have those guys over here too, they normally call themselves tres amigos, and it’s fun being serenaded.
Mexican food is great and so is the music! Feels good to try something new, isn’t it?
Funny song!
