    Beneficial Results to Our Military

I was approached to write about the benefits of Lasik eye surgery and the benefits it affords our military personnel. This will not be a hard assignment. I had Lasik eye surgery 7 or 8 years ago and have enjoyed the benefits. I love waking in the morning and being able to see. I love not wearing glasses that fog up when I go outside. Recently, because of my age, I have started wearing reading glasses. The inconvenience of putting on a pair of glasses to see fine print is nothing compared to putting contacts in my eyes or wearing glasses to be able to move about.

Having said that, I would like to expound on the advantage of Lasik to the military. Almost two years ago, my daughter, who is in the military, was ordered to have Lasik eye surgery. Because of her flight duties, she faces extreme and physically demanding conditions. The military deemed it necessary for her to correct her vision to give her the best ability at her job. Needless to say, we scoured the Internet for LASIK information. I am happy to say that after attending information seminars with my daughter, we were elated that she would receive the benefits of the surgery. She is one of the 95% who has achieved 20/20 uncorrected vision or better.

The Department of Defense (DOD) and NASA use an all-laser form of LASIK. Today’s LASIK exceeds all established standards of safety and effectiveness. LASIK technology has evolved to the modern Lasik or iLASIK™ Procedure that uses two lasers instead of one.

    From www.ilasik.com
In the first stage of iLASIK, wave-front technology maps the unique characteristics of the individual’s eyes. Then, an ultrafast, computer-guided laser creates a corneal flap. This laser replaces the handheld microkeratome blade used in older forms of LASIK and makes the procedure exceptionally safe. After the flap is created, the wave-front mapping data guides a second laser for vision correction. The combination of these advanced laser technologies creates a custom-fit procedure clinically proven to provide excellent safety and visual results. Lasik has benefited over 12 million Americans with my daughter being counted amongst them.
