Reading About Dead Bodies
I just now have begun to read a book that my daughter gave me for Christmas a few years ago. It is an odd book. The title, Stiff, should tell you something. It is about cadavers. Yep, a story about dead bodies. The author, Mary Roach, offers witty, albeit irreverent humor as she tells how cadavers are used in medical experimentation to applications in transportation safety research. She describes how “beating-heart” cadavers are used in organ transplants. I read when I go to bed and so I hope I don’t have nightmares. It has been interesting so far but I am only on chapter two. I read information at Amazon that said that this book is enlightening if you are interested in find out what really happens to a body that is donated to the scientific community. I have a question. When eyes are donated to a living person, is that person able to see through those eyes? I hope someone knows the answer to that question.

I doesn’t know the answer, But I think if some person need donated eyes, and the doctor(s) ready to do surgery of this eyes, I hope that person will able to see. May be they can’t see like before again. ..

I don’t know, I think this book sound pretty interesting. Of course, I’m a huge X-Files fan and think that Scully rawks, so that might be a factor.
I had no idea they used donated bodies in that fashion. Sorry, I don’t know the answer about the eyes. The book sounds very interesting though- I’m an x-files fan too.

I read that book a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Well, that sounds weird, but you know what I mean. I hope.
Another interesting book related to death, forensics, etc., was called “Aftermath” by Gil Reavill. It’s written by a guy who runs a crime scene clean-up company.

I have this book in my classroom and two students have found it pretty fascinating.
About donating eyes – my understanding is they’re used primarily for research, but they can provide a corneal transplant for people with vision problems.
Enjoy the reading!
