The Name Is the Game
How likely is your name going to cause trouble for you? Last evening, I had dinner with a lady who said she was teased as a child because her last name has the word butt in it. I can believe her every word. It would be hard to deal with a last name that brings on taunting. You cannot change your last name when you are a child. Parents need to think about what they name their children.
When Lynn and I were trying to think of names for our children, we took into consideration what the initials spelled and what the name rhymed with. We didn’t want to set our kids up for trouble. I wish more parents would teach their kids not to tease but it is a fact of life that happens.
I recently read where a man encounters a hassle every time he tries to make flight reservations because of his name being associated with the name of a terrorist. Checking into cheap hotels would be a nightmare. There is a government’s terrorist “watch list.” I suppose we will need to have that list before we name our babies.

Kids can think of something cruel to say about pretty much every name. I got made fun of because my name was spelled differently (which I love now!), and for my last name, which is really nothing abnormal, just difficult to pronounce.

Did you hear about the guy who wanted to change his name to F*** censorship? They wouldn’t let him. Thought that was funny–they censored him!
