Four Foods on Friday #39

Published by Karen at 11:04 am under Four Foods on Friday

Yes Folks, it is Friday! Time for Four Foods on Friday sponsored by Val at Fun, Crafts and Recipes.

#1. When you need to serve desserts, do you buy them or make them?

I almost always make my own desserts. I will buy ice cream to have with cake and pie. I do buy sugar cream pie because it takes so long to stand and stir the liquid it takes to make a sugar cream pie. Too much work and the ones I buy are so good.

#2. When baking do you use butter, margarine or something else?
I use margarine unless I am making cookies. Cookies turn out so much better when I use real butter.

#3. What meats or veggies do you cook in the oven?

When I fry chicken, I finish cooking it in the oven. I can’t think of any veggies I cook in the oven.

#4. Share a recipe for anything that is cooked in an oven.

When I took my mom and aunt to eat at an Amish couples house Wednesday night, I got the recipe for the chicken we ate. It was so yummy.

Take boneless chicken breasts and dip them in egg. Dip in flour and then again in the egg. Then dip in a seasoned mixture ( darn if I can remember the name but it came from the grocery). Fry in a little bit of oil until slightly browned and then bake in the oven.

The good thing about recipes like these is it really doesn’t matter what kind of seasoned mixture you use. They always turn out so good, yet you’re free to use whatever seasoning you happen to have sitting around :) Definitely a keeper, this one.

I’ve used the egg/chicken breast/flour recipe before and used the Montreal Steak Seasoning (yes, steak) before and it actually tastes quite good!

What happens to the chicken when you put it in the oven after frying? I have never heard of that. Does it make it crispier because that is the whole point of the frying it in my opinion.

Karen, Here’s the recipe for the strawberry dessert:

      Strawberry Heaven
      1 White cake
      2 cool whip, light defrosted
2 Lg boxes vanilla pudding, fat free instant
      1 qt strawberries

Prepare cake, remove from pan, allow to cool on rack. Prepare pudding. Cut cake into cubes. Wash berries, quarter the strawberries. Place layer of cake cubes in bottom of trifle bowl, follow with hearty layer of berries, then pudding, top with coolwhip, another layer of cake, then pudding, then berries, then coolwhip, cake, berries, pudding, extra thick layer of coolwhip. Depending on how many berries are left, arrange them on top. Refrigerate until ready to serve!

If you bake it without a lid or cover, it stays crispy.

Your post made me realize I am hungry… Have missed my lunch… Interesting, why do you prefer margarine to butter (butter seems to be more natural and healthy to me)?
