At My Desk

Published by under business

I spent my morning in class. I had a blast learning how to use the features on my new sewing machine. A nice 80 year old lady taught me how to make button holes and even sew on the buttons with my machine. I discovered that my new machine can zip through denim that has been folded 5 times! I was the only student and got so much information. I cannot wait to try out the things she taught me.

First though, I need to get back to work. My desk is covered with unopened mail and delivery receipts. I have to go over a life insurance quote, order a roll of carpet for a new reception hall and make sure tomorrow’s job has been called. Work gets in the way of all the crafty things I want to do! LOL I guess I better be good and get my work done or I may not have any money to buy my craft materials.

Going to the Fair

Published by under entertainment

PhotobucketIs there a full moon? I am telling you that every nut in our town decided to visit our store today. I am worn out! I don’t think I am capable of selling budget software or anything else after my day. Not even if I was paid a million dollars could I engage my brain in any meaningful discussion. I want to crawl into a cocoon and sleep. No such luck for me though. I am wondering what got into me the day I signed up to work at the fair tonight. I had no idea what my job would be. I thought we might hand out pamphlets inviting people to come to our church. That would have been fun. I found out that we will be working in the kitchen. I am praying for a good attitude. I know it will be fun once we get there. We get to eat the yummy food and only have to pay half price. I need to get going so we have time to look at the exhibits before our shift starts. I love the fair. I hope someone gives out yardsticks and I love getting new pencils. See, I am thinking positive already.

Machine Quilting

Published by under a bit of everything

I want to show you the quilting that my friend, Sue, did on my quilt. She is so talented. I would not have anyone else work on my quilts. She makes a special effort to do what goes with each quilt. She even quilted a horse head into a friend’s quilt. Her quilt was made with fabric having to do with horses. Mary didn’t even see the horse until she inspected the quilt one day. LOL

Venturing Into A New Arena

Someday, hubby and I might get our business into the 21st century. We are stubborn business owners who have done things the same way for almost 30 years. I am jealous of all the online businesses that have made a go of this new arena of selling. If I were to venture into this arena, I would call upon a company who is geared specifically towards a small business like ours. Having a website would be something that I am not trained in and I would definitely rely on the know how of a company like Concentric Business Solutions. They offer hosting services that are backed with customer service representatives who can guide us through the process and help us if we have problems. They offer domain registration and know that we need spam filters as well as virus protection which are included in their hosting packages. Email hosting is another feature of Concentric Business Solutions. Their website looks very inviting! Perhaps I should quit putting this off.

From a Jelly Roll to This

Published by under a bit of everything

How do you like my latest finished project? I made this from a jelly roll and then I had a lady machine quilt it. This is the first time I have ever had anyone quilt one of my tops. I like the flowery design she used. Photobucket

What They Are Watching

Published by under entertainment

I was talking to my son about a radio show that happened to be on while we were traveling. This show has been around awhile and he was enjoying it. I have always tried to stay abreast of the latest music that the kids listen to. It is important to understand country, rock and rap lyrics to know what is being said. At Rap Artists dot com, you can type in the name of an artist or song and see what is being said. They also have hip hop videos available to watch. You can use the website to check out whether the music and videos are suitable for your children. The rap video feature is very easy to negotiate and by utilizing the features, you can make informed decisions.

Bring On the Bubble Wrap

Published by under a bit of everything

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

I sold my sewing machine. I feel like I am losing a familiar friend but it is time to move on. I bought a new machine with the understanding, (agreement with my husband), that I would sell my old machine. It is time to find the bubble wrap and get it shipped to the new owner(s). I hope they enjoy it as much as I did and get more use out of all the features it has.

As this spreads across the country and the world, we will all be able to communicate with the agencies and do our part to report crimes. Text messaging technology is taking citizen efforts to report crime to a new level. D.C-area citizens are beginning to use the text messaging options on their phones to report crime. Hopefully, it won’t be long before the rest of us can follow suit.

————–

SJA Mobile today jointly announced with the FBI’s Washington D.C Field Office and Metropolitan Police an initiative which will enable D.C-area citizens to anonymously report crime tips via a novel new medium – SMS. SMS, or “text messaging,” has up until now never been used before as a medium for crime tips.
Citizens in the D.C area can report a crime or homeland security tip by sending a text message with the tip to the number 50411. The 5-digit number to text to is called a “Short Code.” Currently the service is available on all major wireless carriers, along with several Tier 2 carriers.
SJA Mobile is in talks expand the service to several other major cities.

Kudos to SJA Mobile. This is only the beginning!

Nerd Is In

Published by under a bit of everything

While listening to the Today show a few mornings ago, I heard that being a nerd is in style. I could have told them that. If nerd is equal to geekiness, there are thousands if not zillions of nerds out there. They have brains and are too busy to worry about fashion. They wear the dark rimmed glasses, polyester bowling type shirts and white socks with their straight legged blue jeans. Did you know that you can buy glasses with the nose piece already made to look like it is being held together with a piece of tape? Ha! Ingenious marketing skills were used to think of that. So, being a nerd is fashionable. Go forth all ye nerds!

Heads or Tails

Published by under entertainment

Photobucket

Tomorrow is when I normally participate in Heads or Tails sponsored by the lovely Skittles. I noticed that some already have their posts up so I too am joining in. This weeks theme is Line. I could bore you with computer line ups like CAT5e and hardware but instead I though I would share something cute. Something like this “line” of Boston Terrier puppies. Aren’t they adorable?
