    Protect Yourself

Identity theft is becoming a bigger threat to all of us than we ever thought it would be. I am afraid that with the prices of everything increasing, it will only get worse. People will go to any lengths to get the things they want and in some instances what they need. They have hit bottom. Watch the following video to see how this can affect you.

We need to protect ourselves. We are at risk every time we use our credit cards online unless we use a great service like Shop Shield®. This service is one that consumers are becoming aware of and utilizing for protection is a new consumer service offering complete protection against identity theft and fraud when shopping online. This is a free, unique, and cutting edge privacy solution to protect someone from stealing our credit card numbers, bank account information, billing addresses and email addresses. You name it, the thieves have figured out a way to get it.

Shop Shield® is a resh new technology/product that is designed to be effective. In fact, Shop Shield® means 100% Security Guaranteed in the following areas:

    * Consumer data is stored in a fortress of security systems
    * All personally identifiable information is fragmented, then encrypted
    * Encrypted data is stored in multiple independent databases
    * Every transaction is monitored using technologies that exceed federal banking standards
    * Hardware that stores data is modeled after Department of Defense security standards.
    * They will reimburse every penny, up to $10,000 more than the coverage your credit card company provides.
    * They will also provide complete, and personalized victim resolution services at no charge.

As an IT guy I don’t believe this. Cookies are dangerous. There are key loggers that will store your information and ShopShield will never know.

The information that is transmitted can not be altered by another program unless the company at the other end has a way of putting the code back together. It my mess it up on your local computer, but other than that you can hang your data in the wind.

Rules for shopping on line. SSL certificate must be singed by an authority. Make sure that you typed in the address and didn’t just follow a link. When in doubt copy and paste the link into another browser window or tab. This will help protect against fishers.

You need to make sure that you clear your cookies. Firefox makes this easy as well as Opera. IE 7, makes it somewhat easy.

You will never stop people at other companies that have your data. If you use a CC and they store it then you are at risk. If you have a CC with a bank then you are at risk. Why, because someone has access to the data somewhere and you will not protect yourself 100%.

The $10,000 i’m sure has some sort of “you have to do exactly this” and you will get your money if something happens. Ever bought a serge protector, and still had your TV die from a lighting bolt, yeah try getting your money from that one.

I’m not saying that this will not help, I’m saying that they are only telling half truths. When in doubt, just don’t do it.

I shop online, and Bank online. I have had my identity stolen, and it wasn’t by the internet. How? It was done because ATM cards were in my mailbox, and either the postman or someone else took them out.

Do not think for a second that you are safer with a $50 program, with a $10,000 warranty sticker on the box.

This company is backed by Trustwave Information & Security Compliance. I use this service so I actually know what I’m talking about, even if I’m not an “IT guy”. My real information, including my credit card or bank info, is never sent to the merchant. They get an anonymous name. They get an anonymous address. They get a virtual card # good only for that purchase and only for the amount of the purchase. They don’t get ME at all. The terms of agreement spell it out- if you’re information is compromised through the use of Shop Shield you will be reimbursed up to $10k. No special hoops to jump through. They blew it, they pay for it. There is no tricky wording or special conditions. They’re telling half-truths? No, they’re not.

We protect ourselves against negative forces everyday in so many ways. Think about it; we lock our doors to our homes to keep ourselves as well as our belongings safe, we wear seat belts in our auto’s, we take care when cooking so as not to get burned, we guard our wallets and purses against theft, we check our credit reports and bank accounts to guard against identity theft, we check and recheck the daycare our children attend to keep them safe, we go to the medical doctor, eye doctor, and dentist to protect our health, and the list goes on and on, it is endless.
