Look Out the Window
I was talking to a friend last evening and we agreed that traveling with children is different than when our children were young. She is gearing up to pack the car and head to Michigan for a week of vacation. They will be taking their canoe and a john boat. We said that so many kids today are used to having a dvd player in the car that they are not used to looking out the window. Parts of our discussion were echoed by Rebecca in her post Enjoy the Ride.
I am not sure I would want a dvd player in my car because I would be forever telling the kids to turn it off and look out the window. Besides, do you need audio racks to make those things work? I have no idea. When my sister and I took our kids on a trip from California to Indiana, we had to beg the kids to stop listening to their head phones for a few minutes and look at the scenery. New Mexico has terrain like no other I had ever seen. I wish hubby had been with me because there are no words to describe the colors of oranges and reds splashed throughout the countryside.
We had fun traveling when we were kids because we played travel BINGO. Did you play that? You had to see a sign that had a picture that represented each letter. We also played the alphabet game. It was played the same way as BINGO but you had to find 26 things. Those pesky Q’s and X’s always made it hard to win. Do you remember any games you played when traveling?

Hi Karen, thanks for visiting my blog! Yep, as much as my kid would love a DVD player in the van (and as much as I would LOVE to have them shut up and watch it sometimes, lol), we won’t get it. Very oftentimes, the simple things in life are best.
How I hope to see the scenery afforeded by New Mexico someday! I have heard it is beautiful.
I remember playing a license plate game. I think that you had to try to find license plates from every state on the word or something like that.
