The Future is Near

Flomerics has released a video that reveals the complex 3D airflow around a wingsuit that enables a human being to glide through the air like a bird. Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q09fO5SqHIo to see a video of the computer simulation. Air flow acting upon a human wearing a wingsuit is calculated through software. The software was used to calculate the fluid flows and pressures that produce lift and drag forces. Calculations of those variables enable wingsuit fliers to glide with an extraordinary level of control. They are actually able to trace the contours of rock ledges and other obstacles from just a few feet away instead of flying aimlessly and out of control. It will be very interesting and exciting to see how computer aided engineering software will impact the world. Someday, we will think nothing of putting on our wingsuits to fly to the neighbor’s for coffee.

Flomerics is a world leader in the computer simulation of engineering design processes involving fluid flow and heat transfer. It is my understanding that the benefits that many companies garner from the simulator’s findings, allows businesses to develop the most efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for their facilities. Flomerics’ simulation software analysis air flow patterns to provide businesses with cost effective systems and as a bonus can be used to identify and improve upon problems with the wingsuits. Very cool stuff.
