Aging Not Aching

Published by Karen at 10:50 pm under health

I know that as I get older, I will struggle to do the things I did in my twenties. I don’t have to be happy about that struggle. I plan to be as active as possible. I try to eat food that is good for me and get plenty of sleep. It isn’t always easy. It seems that when we travel, we eat things that are not the best for us. Riding in the car all day makes me feel sluggish. When we reach our destination is when I know that the greasy fried food and the numbness in my butt was worth it.

When we are at home it is a treat to eat fresh vegetables and drink water. I wish I was motivated to exercise more than I do but at least I walk most every day. Yesterday I pulled weeds and I think I over did it. I knew that there would not be a day very soon that I would be able to get back to those pesky weeds. OMG! I was so sore this morning. I had very little energy to get myself ready for work. I am beginning to think that I need to add some vitamin B-12 into my regular supplement plan. Energy is the key word for me. I have read the articles expounding, “Try sublingual B-12 today.” B-12 plays a key role in the production of chemicals that help regulate sleep, mood, appetite, and energy. Energy is the key word for me. With more energy comes good moods, healthy appetites and restful sleep. A not so sore butt will be icing on the cake.

Hmm.. Try some and then tell us the outcome of it =) And do take it moderately okay? Too much isn’t good for your health.

It’s great that we’re all starting to think more on the healthy sides of things – less fast, processed foods and more healthy foods! You’re right, I just came off a road trip myself, and I was stopping every few hours for a combos snack and a mountain dew. But I guess that’s how it goes when you get out of your routine.

As far as taking vitamin B12, it’s probably not all that necessary. I’ve had a bit of experience in medical biochemistry and I’m positive that you don’t need a B12 supplement unless your doctor indicates that you do.

What I mean is…taking in more B12 than your body actually needs has no effect. In fact, you only really need micrograms of the stuff per day. Unless you’re a vegetarian, you’re probably not deficient in B12 since it’s only found in animal products.

Then again, if you’re over 50, it’s generally recommended to get your B12 levels checked regularly by a doctor because this is when B12 absorption begins to decline.

As a matter of fact, B12 deficiencies are rarely caused by insufficient dietary intake, but instead problems absorbing the vitamin.

I’ve written a page all about vitamin B12 with all of this info (and a lot more) – check it out if you like. Hope this helps!
