Beautiful Creatures
I ran across an article in Country Woman magazine about a resort where you can watch elk and stay at a comfy lodge. I posted about it on my travel blog, My Road. While reading the article, I became curious about elk. I did a bit of research and discovered some interesting things about elk.
Did you know that elk were hunted to the point that they almost became extinct? Thankfully, efforts were made to prevent that from happening.
Other interesting facts:
A bull (male) elk’s antlers may reach 4 feet (1.2 meters) above its head, so that the animal towers 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall.
Bull elk lose their antlers each March, but they begin to grow them back in May in preparation for the late-summer breeding season.
In early summer, elk migrate to high mountain grazing grounds where the cows (females) will give birth. Each cow typically has a single calf, which can stand by the time it is 20 minutes old.
That is the tip of the iceberg as far as interesting information on elk.

Hey Karen, good research on elks and thanks for the information. You have taken lots of pain in the research. The contents of the blog are really valuable. The viewers may be benifited with this knowledge.
