My Friend the Stuffed Animal
At what age did you give up your favorite stuffed animal? It was a sad day when I put mine in a box for storage. I prefer not to say how old I was. I could hear them asking me how I could be so cruel. Mine had names and they slept with me every night. I had a pajama dog. Do you remember those? You were to store your pajamas inside the animal. All those days of protecting my pj’s and what did I do? I put that dog in a box. Sigh.
What makes some stuffed animals more popular than others? I hear that Webkins are a big thing right now. How many brands of stuffed animals can you think of? Gund, Ty, Russ are a few that come to mind. I love the ones that feel so soft. ![]()

My favorite stuffed “animal” was Raggedy Ann. Every Christmas morning under my arm was a brand new one in bed with me, replacing the year old tattered one. My Mom still has the last 3 or 4 and they are in a small rocker that was mine as a child. My son (now 18 years old) was very fond of his “Puffalumps” as a small child and we have also managed to keep them around…just because!!

I just read a piece on the history of Raggedy Anne. How nice that you still have yours.
Hi Karen,
My great grandmother had a stuffed monkey named “Zip” that she kept at her home for all of us to tote around when we would visit. He wore a yellow shirt with red trim and a red “Z” in the middle of the shirt, red pants with suspenders, and white shoes (the ones that looked like toddler shoes). We all toted him around, but for some reason he was my favorite!

I wonder what ever happened to Zip? That is such a nice memory.
Hi Karen, glad you asked about Zip. The last time I saw him was when we were packing to move to NC. So, I’ll need to climb up in the attic and see which box I’ve not unpacked yet. Perhaps as part of some spring cleaning project?
