Going to Amelia Island

horses1.jpgOh boy Oh boy! You probably thought I was kidding when I talked about how I encourage my kids to end up somewhere that has a warm climate. I am so excited about Stacy moving to Jacksonville, Florida. I have the weather report widget and I check the report every day. Her weather is 40 degrees higher than our just about every day. She is a good child. She listens to her mommy!

While poking my nose around the Internet, I discovered that Amelia Island is a short, 30-minute drive from Jacksonville International Airport. Amelia Island is where I have been reading about Loggerhead, Green and Leatherback turtles. Amelia Island is the epitome of places to check out wildlife in it’s natural habitat. Many visitors travel there to see nests of female turtles. The busy mamas will deposit a clutch of about 100 ping-pong ball-sized eggs along the beaches.

While Stacy has been in the military, I have found myself visiting lighthouses. I have become interested in the history and the different styles of lighthouses. Amelia lighthouse looks like another good one to see.

Lynn checked out the fishing and is all for making reservations. There is a great Lodging Special that begins now and ends in February. We can reserve 2 nights and get the 3rd night free by booking through 3rd Night Free sponsored by the Amelia Island Tourist Development Council. That is when we are planning on hauling some of Stacy’s furniture to her so that will be perfect. I am looking over the website and it says we can choose from 12 participating Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts. You know how we love B & B’s! Amelia Island and Jacksonville, HERE WE COME!!!
