Blogspot Change Is the Pits

Published by Karen at 12:32 am under internet technology & interests

I am bummed out tonight. I have been checking out all my friends blogs and have discovered something. Blogspot no longer allows commenters to put their own url in. You have to use your blogspot account or be anonymous. That stinks.

I want people who use blogger for their blogs to know about my other blogs. For instance, if I leave a comment on Peg’s AZ Life which is a blogspot blog, I can no longer leave the link to this blog, The Pond, because it is not a blogspot blog.

It’s not a good move, is it?

I’m friends with a group of blogs, some of them hosted on blogger, and this has had a bit of an impact on how we converse and help each other out. Apparently a lot of people are stressed out about this and that there might be a way to change it back, but really, no one can tell me why blogger/google thought this was a necessary step.

It’s a bit like the ill-fated nofollow tags that were introduced.

      Karen,
I noticed that too, wrote about it on Google Is Not God. Looks like a way to thwart the Do Follow list. I wonder if that list is big enough to warrant the change. I haven’t seen any reason behind the change however. I think it may be time to move all my blogs to their own domains.

Remember the Fab 4 panel where I mentioned some of the upcoming contests I was doing. Well it is December 1 and they are all live. Just wanted to let you know. The link is on my name. I hope you participate. Thanks.

I noticed the same thing last night, I think that is pretty crappy… It is like Google is taking all the opportunities for the little guy to compete.

It seems like they are cutting their own throat. I am considering dropping my blogspot blog. Who will want to comment on it? Not that we only comment for the link but if it comes down to commenting on a few posts a day, I am going to comment on those that I can leave a link for this blog on.

Adam, why do you call the no-follow tags ill-fated? Javascript blogrolls are NOT picked up by google so they shouldn’t hurt you.

Eh, that sucks. I just got into blogging and I can see how a backlink, especially for those who create well written posts, is not too much to ask.

It is important. Welcome to blogging.

Great observation Karen, I don’t like that I have to log in with my Goo account just to be able to comment on someones blog. It is a deterrent.

This is nuts. What is Google’s deal???

      Denise’s last blog post..Oops! I’ve Been Tagged!

They want to control everything. They want blogspot blogs to stick with their own kind?

    12. Holly on 12 Dec 2007 at 4:41 pm

This is just too much! Here is the proof that they are trying to control the internet. Yes they can do what they want with there site, but it will cause people to get angry and leave.

That is why I am moving off blogspot and redirecting everything.

Yeah I noticed it too and was bummed. I have 4 blogs and I like to leave the most relevant blog as a link. I now have two blogger accounts with two different web page listings on the account, so at least I can post a comment and they can look at my profile and see my link.

Cynthia Blue’s last blog post..A Caribbean Cruise!!!
