Jena 6

Published by at 9:31 pm under a bit of everything

I have been watching the case of the Jena 6. These are kids who are being given the shaft because of color. I thought these things weren’t supposed to happen any longer. It makes me sick. The kid who was hurt probably insulted the boys so much that they couldn’t take it any more. Not that it is an excuse but tensions were raw. What happened to the days when kids could duke it out and get things settled. If it had been white boys against other white boys, I don’t think the law would have been involved. If a black boy had been beaten, I would bet the police wouldn’t have been involved.

Today, CNN published this article concerning this case:

A Louisiana appeals court Friday vacated the remaining conviction of a teenager accused in a violent, racially charged incident in Jena, Louisiana, his attorney said.

Bob Noel said the 3rd District Court of Appeals in Lake Charles threw out the conviction for second degree battery against Mychal Bell, saying the charges should have been brought in juvenile court.

The future of the case against Bell is up to the district attorney, who must decide whether to refile the charges in juvenile court, Noel said.
